A Word about Finance

“Moreover it is required in stewards that one be found faithful” - 1 Corinthians 4:2

Stewardship and faithfulness are two key concepts that have characterized the Gideon ministry since its inception in 1899, and have been hallmarks of the Australian ministry since its formation in 1956. A faithfulness to God’s call and direction in developing and implementing a ministry that consistently maintains its singular objective of “winning others for Christ” and a stewardship that is focused on properly using the resources committed to it.

The National Cabinet (an elected, volunteer board) has the overall responsibility for the fiscal budget of The Gideons International in Australia Inc. The National Finance Committee (a standing committee of the board) chaired by an elected National Treasurer, monitors the finances of the association meeting four times annually as well as reporting at each of the four cabinet meetings held each year.

Additionally, The Gideons International in Australia Inc. annually engages an independent auditing firm (currently Ernst & Young) which performs an audit of the financial statements of the association in accordance with Australian Accounting
Standards AAS 1, Statement of Financial Performance, AAS 36, Statement of Financial Position and AAS 37, Financial Report Presentation and Disclosure. Copies of the audited financial statements along with the auditors report are provided
to the Finance Committee and the National Cabinet for review and acceptance. An audited financial statement is available upon request to members of the association, donors (non – Gideons), churches and other supportive institutions. The Gideons International in Australia Inc. as an Incorporated Association in the Australian Capital Territory, complies annually with the requirements of The Registrar of Business Names and Associations in the A.C.T.

Also, the National Treasurer shares a complete financial report at the annual national convention and a summary financial statement is published in the November ‘Australian GIDEON’ magazine which is distributed Australia wide.

The Gideons International in Australia is committed to a trustworthy and faithful stewardship of all monies given to the association, thus we are pleased to post the following 2006 Audited Financial Statement (this file is in Acrobat format and is 909KB in size).
